Brilliant Debut Novel
I have read many debut novels over the years and this ranks as one of the best! As other reviewers have already said, this is a very clever variation on the time-

A really compelling read, which I got through in about three sittings, because I kept reading more than I intended to, as I was so gripped by the quest of the central character, Kariss, and was impatient to see how her situation was resolved. I don't read many time-

I should start by saying this definitely isn't your average 'going back in time' type of 'time travel' novel. Set just after the Roman exodus from Britain, it goes against tradition and, very cleverly, flashes forward to the present day.
Beautifully researched and unusually well written, there isn't a hint of a 'stumble' as you read. In fact, this compelling story ebbs and flows with its own inexorable rhythm and draws the reader onwards towards events that should have been a part of history (even if they weren't!).
The Girl of Two Worlds is a success on many levels. The plot carries a powerfully Pagan message of death and re-
As I hope you can tell, I really enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to the next in the series!

An excellent example of historical fiction. If you're a fan of Bernard Cornwell or JV Jones, then you will love this book.
It's not very often I find myself gripped by a book, but this is definitely one that had me hooked. Any spare moment I had found me reading, even if it was just a page at the time. I am grateful that I have finished this, I might now be able to get some sleep as I found myself in bed going, just one more page!
The characters are very well written and easy to empathise with and the depth of description makes it really easy to visualise the scenes. I loved the way that as Kariss explores the past and learns about the world, the reader learns along with her, it really draws you into the story. It also has a couple of twists that I didn't see coming.
I cannot think of a single criticism of this book, except perhaps that the next one hasn't been written yet! Get writing Nelly!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love, loss and lore in an exciting tale of two cultures crashing together in the far past
A fantastic tale rooted in magic and myth from our history in the British Isles. The action is fast paced and carries the reader along, while the descriptive elements draw the reader into the landscape and cultures of a time long lost to our civilisations. A great read!

As with all good novels I felt bereft when I reached the last page and had to put it down. I was totally living in that ancient land which was so well portrayed that I was not even once jolted back into reality with any inaccuracies. The energy of the Scottish landscape was beautifully atmospheric and magical giving the whole story a solid grounding in a tale spanning centuries. Loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly reccomended well researched historical fantasy
I've just finished reading this book, it is brilliantly written and hard to put down!
Unlike Harper's first novel, this one is based solely in the past. It is very easy to imagine these events in the book taking place because the places used are nearly all real.
With a story combining love, myth, history and mystery, I highly recommend this book.
